he Economic and Technological Development Zone of Zunyi was set up ten years ago. Thanks to the reform and opening-up, and painful efforts made by people and investors in the zone, a new urban district has been formed on the planned 85 km2 area. The zone is an integration of research, development, production, life, education, finance, trade, culture and recreation.

On the solid basis of military industry and scientific strength, a group of hi-tech products in the fields of civil Industries have successfully been developed in the zone, for instance, automobile, high and low-voltage electrical equipment, car relay, elevator, etc. These enterprises have become the pillar industries and completed the reform of modern corporation system. Projects implemented by JV or Cooperation in the zone have good operations such as Tianyi Electrical Engineering Works and Leach from the USA, OKU Corp. from Germany, Changzheng Electrical Equipment Group and Klockner-Moeller from Germany, Aerospace Auto works and Hong Kong Aerospace Science Group. Some of them have gained favorable economic benefits. Changzheng Electrical Equipment Co. Ltd has become the first in Zunyi listed on stock market.

Exchanges are close between coastal regions and the zone. Represented by Haier Group, Guangcai Group, Boda Co. from Shenzhen, Guangdong Yunfeng Group, a number of enterprises have invested in industry, infrastructure facilities, real estate, commerce and trade, and catering. External technology and capital combine with inland resources in a complementary way, thus producing huge economic results. With the implementation of the western development strategy, the cooperation between the west and the east in China will be brighter and broader.

Some provincial privately-owned enterprisers coming to the zone in an early stage have respectively developed into group companies with a capital of more than 100 million yuan nowadays. They constitute the second pillar industry mainly on green sector. Their products sell well at home and abroad and have opened a new field for the industrialization of agriculture, for example, processed meet of beef and mutton from the Mingsheng Group, brand –name tea planting and processing, instant rice noodles from Juxing Group, frozen and preserved food from Tiangyang Group and pharmaceuticals of Ruikang Group.

Meanwhile, large-sized markets have been established for fruits, electrical appliances, computer, auto parts and non-staple food. Their sales incomes are over 100 million yuan respectively and form a system radiating the north Guizhou markets.
The infrastructure facilities in the zone for supply of water, electricity and gas, road and telecommunications are complete. The price for energy is low. The transportation system has played an important role, since the operation of Guiyang-Zunyi expressway and Longdongbao international airport and the construction of Zunyi-Chongqing expressway. Zunyi will become an economically developed city and a key passage linking southwest China and the seaports in South China.
